This normally shows you files like the hosts file in other versions of Windows. I really don't know what to do to make Windows show this file in File Explorer. Obviously there is some other layer of hidden files that I am not able to see with the options in File Explorer. Wonder what else is hidden this way. There is probably some registry hack to display them.

I checked show hidden items and allowed the viewing of hidden operating system files, yet no hosts file to be found.

It is definitely SEP that is blocking it. I installed it and right off the bat, can't do anything with the entire Windows folder other than opening tiles. In a way, I like this because it prevents software from overwriting windows files, but I still need to research it and figure out the what-ifs. Oh and Disabling it temporarily did absolutely nothing.
I still couldn't edit the files. It must be completely removed from the pc. There are instances where I would rather redirect certain hosts on only a certain set of machines. You could always just open a blank notepad, enter data save as host, remove. FEI is an IT service provider. Can you move the file, edit it and then move it back?
File permissions aren't the best in the newer versions of windows tbh It's definitely an SEP setting.
